Take the cable car up to Monte and whiz down the streets on the famous sledge ride. We can also take a jeep safari or cruise along the coast on Nau Santa Maria, a replica of Christopher Columbus's flagship.

To make your holiday complete visit the island of Porto Santo, only 15 minutes by plane or 2 ˝ hours by ferry. The 'Golden Island' is blessed with 9 km of fine beaches unpolluted sand washed by clear, calm sea.

Carnival:
The city wakes up on the Friday before Shrove Tuesday to the sound of bands, samba and carnival parades.

Flower Festival:
Every year after Easter, Funchal is the stage of a luxurious treat for the senses. Flower festival celebrates spring and the season's exuberant flowering.

Atlantic Festival:
The Atlantic festival takes place in June and involves both culture and entertainment- music festival, international fire works competition and street animation.

Wine Festival:
This festival held early September when the grape harvest begins all over the islands. Includes decorations, music and dancing.

Columbus Festival: 
In September, Vila Baleira devotes a week to Christopher Columbus who lived on the island for several year.

X 'mas & New Year Celebrations:
Funchal bay's unique amphitheatre is transformed into giant nativity scene illuminated with thousand's of lights decking the city's main streets from the second half of November, in a scenario of rare beauty.

To hail in the New Year, amazing firework displays are launched from 50 different points at 10 minute intervals with parties on the harbour and on the local boats which continue until the early hours.!

We stay at the comfortable Hotel Estrelicia with 148 rooms situated 300 meters from the sea and 2 kms distance from the capital Funchal. The hotel has magnificent views of Funchal´s bay and also Lido view.
