Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary

 

On the border of Goa state in Karnatka abounds with a richness of flora and fauna. Its richness and diversity offers ample opportunities to nature lovers to enjoy the captivating landscape. The sanctuary is generally undulating with steep slopes, picturesque deep river valleys and rich hilly forest terrain.

The breathtaking valleys, regal looking meandering rivers and the splendid scenic beauty of the syntheri rock make it an awe inspiring experience. The forest in Dandeli is typical moist deciduous and semi evergreen, with pockets of evergreen.

The wildlife species include Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Civet Cat, Wild Boar, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Mouse Deer, Barking Deer, Mongoose, Porcupine, Wild Dog, Giant Squirrel, Jackal, Common Langur etc.

The main bird species include Magpie Robin, Blue Headed Ground Thrush, Golden Backed Woodpecker, Indian Cuckoo, Crested Serpent Eagle, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Grey Hornbill, and a large variety of other birds.

Other interest sightseeing areas within the sanctuary include : Syntheri Rocks, Vincholi Rapids, Sykes Point, Kavala Caves.

Located on the scenic banks of the magnificent River Kali, a short drive away from Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, lies the Bison River Resort. Itinerary for 2 night trip to Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary

Day One

  • Depart Goa 08.00 hours for Dandeli, stopping at Molem en route.
  • Arrive Bison River Lodge at 12.00/13.00 in time for lunch.
  • After lunch we take a nature walk along the banks of the river spotting birds and animals on the way.
  • Return to the resort for tea/coffee.
  • Coracle ride on the river just alongside the resort. Spot birds or try your luck at fishing whilst on the river.
  • Evening audio visual on Indian wildlife followed by dinner and a nature talk around the bonfire.

Day Two

  • Start your day at 04.45 am with a cup of hot coffee or tea, then depart at 05.00 am for a jeep safari
  • Return to the resort at around 11.00 hrs for breakfast.
  • Rest of the morning free to either walk or cycle around the area or go fishing on the river.
  • After lunch free.
  • 16.00 hrs Tea/coffee, followed by a coracle ride.
  • Evening free to watch an audio visual or sit by the bonfire.

Day Three

  • Start your day at around 06.00 hours with tea/coffee/cookies after which we depart for the reserve for an elephant safari.
  • Late breakfast.
  • Depart for Goa around 11.00 hours.
