Luxor has often been called the world's greatest open air museum, as indeed it is and much more. This fascinating city rests on the banks of the Nile. This gateway to Egypt's ancient world offers a showcase of wonderful temples and monuments in the city centre and surrounding area.
Luxor is the perfect place to explore the wonders of ancient Egypt. The awe inspiring Temple of Karnak is one of the largest temple complexes still in existence while the smaller Luxor Temple is in the centre of town. On the west bank of the Nile, the Valley of the Kings is dotted with tombs of Pharaohs, including that of Tutankhamen, while close by is the Temple of Hapshetsut and the massive Colossi of Memnon. The area around Luxor is awash with historical interest, while the town itself provides good facilities for an enjoyable holiday.
As well as exploring the city's historic wonders, we can search the colourful bazaars for that one-of-a-kind souvenir. Haggle over silk scarves, cumin, coriander and saffron, plus a vast array of arts and crafts. Ride a felucca (a traditional Egyptian sailing boat) on the Nile or watch them glide past as we drink mint tea at a pavement cafeŽ on the wide waterfront promenade.
The east bank also offers plenty of modern bars, restaurants and nightclubs for entertainment, in a city traditionally known for belly dancers and snake charmers.
